5070 ti Encoding Overload

After upgrading from a 3080 to a 5070 Ti, I've started experiencing regular technical issues with OBS. OBS is running as administrator. The problem occurs a few times per session, usually during map loading in Tarkov. At that moment, the game begins to stutter heavily, and OBS shows an "Encoding Overload" message.

I don't think it's a GPU overload issue because the same OBS settings worked fine with the 3080. Restarting OBS doesn't help, but restarting the game itself temporarily resolves the problem.

Start disabling HAGS
Windows Game Mode should be enable. It do help.
You may need to reinstall the GPU driver as some people fix issues with their new GPU doing so.
Run again the Auto-configuration Wizard. Restart OBS and test.

Change the rate control to CQP, 18 to 16, TU4. Look-ahead and psycho visual tuning disable.
Or change from advanced output to simple output and select a good recording quality preset as indistinguishable.
Test.

Take into consideration that latests nvidia drivers have performance issues.

It is in fact an overload issue, the two circumstances you are comparing are not the same. Set your recording preset to P1 in settings>output instead of P6 and test again.

I'm having the exact same issue! I upgraded from a 3090 to a 5070ti and using the exact same settings in OBS that I used with my 3090 I'm getting really bad overload.

So I don't think its a setting issue like others are saying! This is because if you start recording using your streaming settings and it overloads, then stop and start recording again until the overload stops and the game runs normally. (you may need to do it 3 or so times. Then stop recording and start streaming and it'll be fine, at least it was in my case.

I am yet to try the latest drivers though.

I saw many times that people upgrading their nvidia GPU needs to reinstall their GPU driver. Not all but I saw it happen.
So, you can use the built in feature on the driver installer to do correct installation (first remove all the previous software and then installs the new) or you can follow the DDU guide method: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/performing-a-clean-gpu-driver-installation.65/
Then run again the Auto-configuration Wizard, restart OBS and test.
Of course, following all the previous steps too fixing common issues.

The problems with the latests nvidia drivers may be part of the problem too.

I DDU'd my drivers twice when I installed the card, mostly to try and solve an issue with Wallpaper Engine. So the drivers I had were fresh, so to speak.

I did however update my drivers to the latest not long after I made my previous post, but I haven't had chance to test them yet. I will post back if that works.

Ok so far with the new drivers and changing the power management mode for OBS and the game to maximum performance in Nvidia Control Panel seems to have solved the issue so far...

I had this problem on the 5070 i had, i ended up getting a a380 to encode, it worked, but it cost me about 20 frames on my 5070 because of the data flying through the chipset etc...

So, i never installed the gforced experience because that app adds tons of dcp latency to my system. So how would you go about setting the card to max power? is that just in the control panel not gforce?

i might end up with the 5070 again, because when i returned it i was 3 days over return perioid even thought i shipped it 2 days before the return period, uhg. right now i have a 9070 xt, but i hate its codecs on streaming, but love them on cqp recordings... so yeah.. if the 5070 is returned back to me, i will have it, and have to return the 9070 xt. uhg

The 5070 and 5060 Ti had difficulty with effective encoding at reasonable settings during gaming, unlike the 3080 and similar models. It's quite disappointing to see the poor real-time encoding performance on the 9070 series and the lower to mid-range options from the Nvidia 5000 series. There is a clear need for a reliable encoder that can function at PCIe 4x in conjunction with a solid graphics card, as this would greatly enhance the mid-range market. It feels ridiculous to spend over $1300 on a 4080, 5080, or 4070 Ti Super when a $600 card should be able to handle high-quality streaming while gaming. This situation is really frustrating. Furthermore, with 1440p and higher becoming the norm, the age of 1080p is fading, and YouTube's handling of 1080p video is disappointing because it doesn't utilize VP9, resulting in blocking artifacts. When will they address this issue?
